I was responsible for establishing the strategy and defining the roadmap to achieve development and sales objectives. Firmly anchored in the activity of laboratory instruments in biochemistry, I have initiated a reorientation of the Business Unit in order to broaden horizons by developing Point-of-Care systems as well as molecular tests. This was driven by close collaboration with Key opinion leaders in obstetrics and gynecology around the world, as well as collaborative programs with the pharmaceutical industries and market access programs with organizations affiliated with WHO and other NGOs (Gates, CHAI, PATH, UNITAIDS,…). This has resulted in particular in a 3-year collaboration with the FIGO (International Federation of Obstetric & Gynecology) with the aim of establishing international guidelines for the management of pre-eclampsia, as well as an extended collaboration with the American Society of Hematology with the aim of develop newborn screening for sickle cell disease in Africa.

Through this role I had the opportunity to propose and lead commercial growth strategies via the development of new distribution networks in Africa, the realization of commercial collaboration (e.g. Mobidiag Oy) as well as to identify targets for strategic investments for the company (e.g. Nightingale).

This role with P&L control consisted of managing the sales forces, support engineers and service engineers for Diagnostics customers in France and South Africa. I was thus able to lead and supervise teams, set up sales and support structures in Africa as well as develop a distribution network over a large part of the African continent. Also in charge of maintaining relationships with opinion leaders in order to maintain a leading position in our key markets (prenatal and newborn screening), and also to allow the emergence of new high growth segments in molecular testing.

I was invited through this role to create and lead the first EMEA sales and support structure within PerkinElmer with the aim of supporting the development of the company in this new high growth sector. Beyond recruiting, training and supporting new teams, this also required integrating acquisitions (e.g. chemagen), developing the PerkinElmer brand in a new sector and define commercial launch strategies for many new products (Fragile-X, microarrays, DNA/RNA extraction).
