In 2020, I was accepted into the Edmund Hillary Fellowship (EHF) as an investor as part of their global community of 500+ entrepreneurs and investors. It's been an incredible opportunity to invest in and get to know New Zealand's startup community.

  • CEO in Residence

    2019 - 2022

In early 2019, I joined Tiny to lead the turnaround of Flow—a productivity platform used by more than 300,000 people in 140 countries including team at Shopify, Apple, TED, NOLS, Yale, Merck, and Bang & Olufsen. When I arrived, Flow had significant technical and design debt, no clear product direction, and was losing around 5% of its customers every single month. Within 18 months, I helped the company return to completely organic month-over-month growth with a brand new version of the product. • Refocused the company to win on user experience, world-class design, and powerfully simple features. • Shipped a complete reinvention of Flow after nearly 18 months of work. Within 48 hours of launch, we saw over 80% of customers switch to use the new version daily with usage growing to 92% within the first 30 days. • Successfully moved from a discount pricing model to a premium one raising prices nearly 2x—supported by a world-class product. • Rebranded the company, product, plans, and created an entirely new product design system.

    2016 - 2017

I partnered with ex-Sequoia partner turned founder Warren Hogarth to define the look, feel, and feature set for Empower before he even incorporated the company. During the 15+ month lead up Empower's launch in the iOS App Store, I led every aspect of the design of the application. After launch, I remained on as an advisor and helped Warren bring on a team of designers to take over—as I made the decision with my wife to move to Colorado and Warren wanted to build an in-office team in San Francisco. I remained on as an advisor for 2+ years helping the team. To date, Empower has raised $174M from Sequoia, Initialized Capital, Icon Ventures, Quiet Capital, and Blisce.
