The Michigan Founders Fund is a network of entrepreneurs and investors across Michigan who have pledged 1% of company equity, investment carry, or annual profits to be allocated to impactful local nonprofits in support of the community. We are a community of Michigan founders who believe community matters. Incubated as a program of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation before spinning out as a statewide network, MFF provides a platform for founder engagement and support in achieving success with their ventures and a simple mechanism for young companies to build a culture of giving back into their business, making it easy for them to support their community.

Chief Strategy Officer, Cisco Security
2021 - 2022
Appointed to create shared alignment around our Cisco Security vision, and ride herd on the changes needed to execute our strategy both at our business group level, and through exec leadership and board-level work. Consolidated and elevated our CTO, advisory CISO, design systems, and strategy teams to forge new working relationships and partnerships across the organization, driving greater transparency and accountability around the execution of our corporate strategy. Promotions included Cisco Security CTO TK Keanini, Cisco Fellow Nancy Cam-Winget, and others to support the development of our staff engineer community, and architecture and design guilds across the company. Sourced, sponsored, or evaluated most of our Cisco Investments security portfolio, partnering our BU and corporate strategy/dev teams - AppOmni, Corellium, Expel, Elevate Security, Hunters, Ion Channel, Island, Isovalent, JupiterOne, Oak9, Rangeforce, Secure Code Warrior, Securiti.ai, Styra, Wabbi, including the acquisition of Kenna Security (Midwest monkey magic ;-), and our first Aspire Fund investments (backing underrepresented founders). Also supported the launch of the Cisco-backed seed-stage venture capital firm Decibel, and the development of its security portfolio (Push Security, cmd, Censys, Rumble, slim.ai, etc.). Helped recruit/advise many subsequently-acquired SaaS founders (ThousandEyes, Kenna Security, Portshift, Banzai Cloud, Slido, Socio, etc.), recruited and onboarded new security executives, and sponsored, mentored, or coached many others into leadership across the security business.
General Manager, Zero Trust & Duo Security
2018 - 2021
Duo's $2.35 billion acquisition was the largest multiple ever paid for a private software company at the time, as Duo was one of the fastest growing, most efficient SaaS businesses of all time. Duo continued on to become Cisco's fastest growing business for the next 3 years, at scale (over $500 million in annual recurring revenue). Along the way, we led the development of Zero Trust in the industry and community - represented by NIST 800-207 (Zero Trust Architecture), our contributions to the standardization of CAEP with Microsoft and others in the OpenID Foundation, and leadership in Forrester's Zero Trust Wave every year. With a cabal of SaaS founders & leaders in AppDynamics, Meraki, Webex, and operations, helped guide the SaaS transformation of the company from consistent SaaS metrics, analysis, and reporting to sales incentives, structure, process, and planning. Enabled Duo talent and programs to contribute at massive scale for Cisco Security (in design, marketing, sales, CX, HR) or at the corporate level (CISO, SaaS transformation, etc.). Among their many accomplishments: rebranding the security business, unifying digital demand gen, unifying inside sales, unifying SaaS customer success, enabling API-driven integration for SaaS orderability, keynoting the RSA Conference, simplifying Cisco cloud security standards, enabling Zero Trust access for most corporate applications, and ultimately leading corporate information security for all of Cisco.
Cisco DevNet is your source for everything developer at Cisco Systems.
Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO
2010 - 2021
Duo protects organizations against breach by making security easy and effective. In an industry littered with costly, complex, and frustrating security experiences, we design security for people. Our trusted access platform ensures only the right users and safe devices have access to applications and infastructure anywhere, while radically reducing the cost of security operations. We've grown to serve over 30,000 customers including the world's largest and fastest-growing companies, but are just as proud to serve countless others that fall below the "security poverty line". Acquired by Cisco for $2.35 billion in October 2018, after spending less than $14m of $119m raised to achieve 9-figure ARR - "unprecedented' best-in-class SaaS metrics, according to the VC community. But I'm proudest of the consistent 70+ NPS we earned from our customers, 4.8 Glassdoor ranking and 99% CEO approval rating from my colleagues. We built the most-loved company in security - by and for our customers, colleagues, partners, and community.
