Beams and Dreams is a Seattle based non-profit co-founded in 2003 by myself and my brother Brian, then ages 13 and 12 respectively. Initially just a concept formulated over numerous dinner conversations, it gradually morphed into an incredibly rewarding endeavor. Beams and Dreams’ mission is to provide fully complimentary boating-based events to cancer patients, survivors and their families. All of its events offer guests the opportunity to spend several hours on a luxury motor yacht or sailing vessel on either Puget Sound or Lake Washington. In addition to the actual time on the water, each event offers delicious food, and creative entertainment such as magicians, musicians, storytellers, balloon artists or environmental education. To date, it has served over 2,000 guests, hosted and operated 26 unique events, procured over $200,000 of in-kind donations and established close ties with 11 local and national cancer-support agencies.
