Project Manager
2019 - 2020
I worked as a Project Manager at FST Lisboa, in the Driverless project whose goal was to adapt previous year's electric prototype - FST09e - to empower it with autonomous driving capabilities. Thus, becoming FST10d. This role included overseeing the work, managing schedules and risk, and guide the technical development of three distinct areas: Hardware - Actuators, Hardware - Electronics and Software Development. Furthermore, I managed and promoted the interactions between the former. I decided to manage hardware development with Waterfall techniques. Whereas in software development, I implemented an adapted version of the Scrum methodology, the first time such had been done in FST Lisboa. My work also involved taking an active role in the Operations department - handles sponsors, marketing and logistics - where I tried to give relevant input to its work and cooperate with likes of the electric project counterpart.
Control System Engineer
2018 - 2019
I was a member of the Vehicle Dynamics department at FST Lisboa, during the execution of the FST09e project - the team's sixth all-electric formula-type prototype. In the first part of the season, I was aiding the Simulation Engineer by performing maintenance on the team's self-developed point-mass simulator. I also verified the results against that of a commercial software. Subsequently, I performed studies in this simulator that supported the Aerodynamics department's design. Moreover, I retrieved energy and segment lap time data that were fed to the team's self-developed longitudinal dynamics' simulator - Gear Ratio study. In the second part of the season, I focused on Control algorithms development. After having started with research on the algorithms used in the Automotive industry, I began implementing simple control algorithms in an ARM-based MCU, some of which had been designed in previous years: • Power Limiter Controller - based on power measurement. • Yaw Rate Controller - outputs Yaw Moment Reference based on steering angle measurement. • Torque Distribution Algorithm - geometrical torque distribution based on steering angle and accelerator pedal measurements, and on safety torque limits. In the summer of 2019, the team took part in 3 formula student competitions: Formula Student EAST, Formula Student Germany (FSG - at the Hockenheimring) & Formula Student Spain (at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya). From this season period, I would highlight the 9th place overall in FSG. Also, the team broke its long-standing Acceleration event time record, twice.
