Sr. Commercial Insurance Product Manager

Led a team that managed an $840M portfolio of small and midsize Commercial P&C and Workers' Compensation business in CA, UT, AK, and HI with top and bottom line responsibility. Launched a cutting-edge pricing predictive model and a new quoting system for $200M CA Workers' Compensation business, resulting in over 10% YoY premium growth driven by profitable segments. Spoke at agent conferences to groups of hundreds of agents about pricing strategy and product enhancements. Developed, filed, and worked with insurance regulators to get approval for rate changes for Commercial Multi-Peril, Commercial Auto, and Workers' Compensation products, including satisfying Prop 103 filing requirements for CA. Set schedule pricing and tiering targets required for profitability, and worked indirectly through underwriters to achieve targets while minimizing impact to underwriter workload. Calculated rate indications and retro adjustments for $15M retrospectively rated Farmers WC policy.
Claims Actuary
2008 - 2011
Created and led a team to provide strategic analyses and to improve data quality for claims department. Built GLM for auto liability claims group resulting in simplified claims assignment process and increased settlement accuracy. Estimated and booked over $1B in reserves for all catastrophic events for entire insurance portfolio. Identified data quality issues, leading to $4M in reinsurance collections and $200M in case reserve reductions. Developed requirements for new claims handling and financial reporting systems, including rules for integrating newly acquired companies (Bristol West, 21st Century, Zurich Small Business) into common claims systems and processes. Priced contracts with outside law firms to reduce outside legal claim expenses by over 20%.
Homeowners Insurance Product Manager
2003 - 2008
Created rate indications and made pricing and underwriting decisions on $240M book of business. Built and used GLMs for retention, price elasticity, and loss costs in rate changes and new product launch. Launched new product with new contract, coverages, and 1000's of new price points in 5 states. Improved reporting and analytical capabilities by developing requirements for over 1000 data elements. Collaborated with sales, underwriting, claims, and legal groups to profitably grow the business.

Created quarterly economic forecasts, using auto-regressive econometric models, for small business use. Developed program using VBA that reduced forecast publication process time from 80 hours down to 20 minutes.
