Sr. Staff Engineer - Platform and API Design
2003 - 2004
Sr. Staff Engineer working within R&D focused on designing next-generation call management API in Java. Platform was commercially released as Avaya Communication Management API (CMAPI). API abstracted low-level, complex telco interactions into easy to use Java API supporting first-party call initiation and media-processing through "soft-phone like capabilities". API leveraged and abstracted multi-threading, NIO, and networking libraries. Team-lead responsibilities including performing code and architectural reviews, prototype development, and collaborating with product marketing.

Refactored MVP of a SOAP-based internal API into a API gateway used by disparate internal applications and external third-party applications. API gateway provided GIS-based data, as well as costing and feasibility data required when provisioning a new network segment on the Level(3) network. Team-lead responsibilities included code and architecture reviews, interfacing with product management and analysts, and cost / LOE estimation.

Oversaw technology strategy and R&D teams responsible for building technology enabled solutions in support of online financing platform. Utilized Agile methodology within in a Java / Open Source tech stack. Participated in capital raise, investor and board meetings.

Oversaw the technology vision, strategy, and development of eCarCredit's financial services tools, including B2B interactions with financial services using Web Services. The eCarCredit platform was one of the first to create and publish web-based APIs (XML over HTTP) to the auto and financial services industries, including participating in the development of XML based loan application exchanges.

Staff Java Engineer working on Java Language, specifically on the javax. extensions for distributed programming, including: RMI, JINI, JIRO. Worked with R&D team to produce new Java language extension (JCP-based) providing discovery, management, and control capabilities of SAN and NAS hardware devices. Interfaced with other Java language teams in to define industry standards, Sun Product Marketing, and initial customers to ensure language extension met market expectations.
