Head of Growth
2016 - 2018
In a hyper growth curve such as the one we are experiencing at Adyen, there are enormous opportunities, but also some risks - one of which is rapid expansion leading to dilution of the culture that created the success. Due to my experience from the start of the company, I can help teams to maximize our growth opportunities and minimize the risk through: - Rolling out of internal tools and events to improve collaboration and knowledge sharing throughout a growing organization. - Ensuring there are a good spread of technical skills across teams to optimize output and maintain a ‘lean and mean’ working environment. - Expanding tech teams while maintaining a consistent internal culture. One of the highlights of this role includes: Adyen's Master of Science internship program. Through connections with my former professors we have built a program that has counseled over 30 students of various universities around the world. We delivered a lot of high graded theses and many hires for Adyen, while introducing key innovations in the payment market. Are you interested to play a part in Adyen's story? Please don't hesitate to contact me!

When we started Adyen there were two big gaps in the product offering in the payment market, which resulted in a lot of complexity for merchants. Firstly Adyen has introduced a truly omni-channel payment platform including POS and secondly did this with an acquiring platform built in-house. We did not only accomplish these goals and assisted thousands of merchants, we introduced many more innovations. During the first 8 years of Adyen, I've been leading the product development efforts. My team worked on innovative products/services and strategic partnerships for our omni-channel Payment Platform (eCommerce, Mobile, Point of Sale, Risk and Data). I loved the versatility in the role, in which both technical knowledge as well as good commercial and strategic insight were required. A big part of the role has been assisting local teams to optimize the Adyen service for their specific region and at the same time rapidly and aggressively expand the local presence. My time has therefore been divided between the various offices in- and outside Europe (Amsterdam, San Francisco & Sao Paulo). Especially in San Francisco I spent a lot of time setting up the local office.

Guerrilla Games is one of Playstation's Game Studios. They have created the Killzone franchise which is an online shooter and one of the exclusive flagship titles of Playstation. A player of this online shooter could follow the progress of his team on a second screen. The project involved designing and implementing this second screen, called Killzone's Round History browser application. The web application was heavily relying on AJAX technology, with a big focus on performance. The game was played by tens of thousands of players simultaneous, and they all needed to see the progress with only a couple of seconds delay. The project has been successful and has made it to the final game.

A proof of concept of the Bibit EMV kernel has been implemented and delivered as part of a bachelor thesis. With a team of four people this module needed to be implemented, since physical payment card processing in the UK moved from magnetic stripe to EMV Chip and Pin processing. After the internship Soft2Connect was hired to complete the EMV kernel. The kernel has been certified by Visa and MasterCard and is still in production today.
