  • Graduate Student Researcher

    2013 - 2018

During my PhD, I worked with two different labs to investigate the immune response to viral and bacterial infections, using traditional lab tools (“bench science”), as well as novel computational and data science (AI/ML) methods Key Scientific findings: • Discovered a human genetic signature of respiratory viral infections: using only publicly available genetic data, I found a transcriptional signature that detects viral infection prior to symptom onset (published in Immunity Cell Press) • Determined the relationship between diet, microbiome and sepsis: worked in a multi-disciplinary team that explored how diet and microbiome influence survival to sepsis (published in PNAS) • Defined the single-cell response to bacterial infection: together with a team of bioengineers, we used advanced imaging techniques to define the macrophage response to Salmonella infection (published in Cell Systems)
