Active advisor to companies in production AI platforms, AI applications for health and consumer, AR, edge/distributed cloud computing, observability, and robotics.

  • Principal Engineer, Technical Fellow, and CTO

    1998 - 2019

    CTO, Tensyr.io: Funded by Sequoia Capital. Built a streaming AI platform for autonomous vehicles using Nvidia hardware. Optimized realtime execution of computer vision and AI models. The platform also included a JIT-compiled event processing and time-series query engine, distributed execution, and continuous microsecond-level tracing/observability. Sole developer of earlier product prototypes including a distributed memory fabric with kernel-bypass use of local and remote persistent memories. Technical Fellow and Chief Software Architect, Calxeda: architect of Fleet Services software and cluster architecture. I contributed to network fabric, SoC, and cluster architecture, deeply engaged with large data center customers, and provided technical leadership on software. CTO, Kx Systems: technical leadership and software engineering of core Kx software products (kdb+ data analysis platform), R&D. Acquired by FirstDerivatives. Director of High-Frequency Trading, Cantor Fitzgerald and others: Software and hardware infrastructure for high-frequency trading, scale-out analytics, low-latency execution systems. Principal Engineer, Upthere: Architected cloud-scale storage infrastructure (custom machines, cluster architecture & network) and backend distributed systems software underpinning Upthere’s consumer products. Acquired by Western Digital. Engineer, Nvidia: Project Denver binary translation and dynamic optimizer. Used in Jetson TX2 and Drive PX2 amongst other products.
