Alzheimer disease and brain aging. • Led the introduction of a newly discovered technology to the lab, creating a novel model of Alzheimer disease. This project idea formed the basis of a competitive grant proposal (1% of applications successful) that was funded for $1M. • Trained and managed two graduate students in order to expand the scope of this project. • First-authored one peer-reviewed publication in Nature.

Genetic regulation of aging in C. elegans. • Discovered the first gene controlling longevity caused by food restriction in an animal, also inventing fundamental new experimental techniques in the process. • Presented my results to audiences of over 300 people as an invited speaker at two international scientific conferences. • First-authored one peer-reviewed article in Nature. Article chosen as issue cover story. • First-authored one additional peer-reviewed publication in Nature Reviews Genetics. Paper is now required reading for a graduate-level course at Harvard.
