Papera Ranch is an old-vine Zinfandel vineyard, located on the eastern side of the Laguna de Santa Rosa in the Russian River AVA, Sonoma County, California. The vineyard is named for Celestino (Charlie) Papera, who planted the vines just after Prohibition was repealed in 1934. Most of Charlie’s original planting remains in place today. Since 2007, Stuart Coulson has worked to preserve and restore the vineyard so that, once more, its reputation is second to none. The old vines are head pruned and dry farmed to produce high quality harvests. The resulting intensely flavorful grapes are prized by a number of winemakers who produce great old-vine Zinfandel and historic field blends, most of which is vineyard designated. Carlisle Papera Ranch 2016 was named number 12 in Wine Spectator Magazine's Top 100 Wines of 2019 (out of over 15,000 wines tasted worldwide).
